Carlisle today

By | 2018-11-12T09:22:33+00:00 November 12th, 2018|

Showery mild sort of day and we are off to Carlisle where we have one runner, Calivigny in the 3.10, Lucy rides and 11 run.  It's frustrating that he hasn't yet won over fences having filled the runner up slot 4 times, he's off a good mark now though, has good course and distance form, goes [...]

And Kelso tomorrow

By | 2018-11-09T18:53:06+00:00 November 9th, 2018|

A cold easterly, rain in the air, lots in the West, not much in the East.  I've had a few requests BBC Scotland area as to how to watch this evening's  Landward programme from outside BBC Scotland area - it's on Sky Channel 951 from anywhere and can be watched here for the next month, not [...]

Hexham tomorrow

By | 2018-11-08T18:45:52+00:00 November 8th, 2018|

Showery and cool, grass here good so plenty of schooling done this morning, star of the show was veteran Rossini's Dancer who is being prepared for a season in Ladies point-to-points ridden by one of our barn managers Mhairi - if only they all jumped like him....  An OK day at Musselburgh yesterday, Andhaar wasn't as [...]

Musselburgh tomorrow

By | 2018-11-06T15:26:40+00:00 November 6th, 2018|

A fine day and looking forward to the start of Musselburgh's jump season tomorrow where we have two declared runners, Andhaar in the 12.45 and Ballynanty in the 1.50.  Ground will be fast but has been well watered, it is indicative of the strange weather that we have had this year that the two chases on [...]

Ayr tomorrow, busier, perhaps?

By | 2018-11-02T14:18:29+00:00 November 2nd, 2018|

Another glorious autumn day and we've been lucky as BBC Scotland have been here for last two days filming some short features for  their Landward programme.  Some welcome rain due which should enable us to have a few more runners, 8mm on Wed night here was also helpful in allowing us to school plenty of horses [...]

And one at Ayr tomorrow

By | 2018-10-28T12:48:05+00:00 October 28th, 2018|

A glorious autumn Sunday and a chance to catch up round the farm and in the office.  One runner at Ayr tomorrow from our 8 entries, Andhaar in the 3.15, 12 run the ground will be fast side of good and it's a training race so Aiden Blakemore who has ridden him before takes the ride. [...]

And another two! Kelso tomorrow

By | 2018-10-26T19:46:10+00:00 October 26th, 2018|

Colder now and an early start beckons to make sure get back from the Cotswolds in good time to walk the track at Kelso, need to be happy it is safe for our two declared runners. Figs Pride (Kim) First up is Figs Pride making her hurdling debut in the 1.50, 10 run and [...]

And another! Cheltenham tomorrow

By | 2018-10-25T19:11:20+00:00 October 25th, 2018|

Like buses, Cheltenham tomorrow, Killer Crow in the 4.55, Kit rides and no less than 20 run.  Competitive stuff but great to have a runner down there and if we have this horse near his best he could run a big race.  This race has been the plan since March and he’s had a good preparation [...]

A Runner! Carlisle tomorrow

By | 2018-10-24T18:42:30+00:00 October 24th, 2018|

A runner no less, at Carlisle tomorrow,  whatever next!  Contrary to some rumours we have not actually given up racing our horses but, like many trainers, are waiting patiently for some softer ground.  This is a normal sort of feeling earlier in October but as it is now late October I'm feeling distinctly twitchy and with [...]

An October update, the calm before the storm….

By | 2018-10-14T16:58:20+00:00 October 14th, 2018|

Lovely today at Kinneston but wet, wet, wet yesterday and not a bad thing at all because we need rain to ease the ground at the racecourses, watering winter tracks at this time of year can prove foolhardy.  A long day in the office catching up and making plans, busy times here with the yard very [...]
