Very mild this afternoon, extraordinarily so for November. Another busy weekend looming, just one runner in the end at Hexham tomorrow then eight at Kelso on Saturday and hopefully two at Carlisle on Monday. Will be hoping for some better results as didn’t have the best time last weekend, hopefully just a series of unfortunate coincidences – delighted with Elvis Mail though who has come out of the race well and the handicapper has kindly lopped a couple of pounds off his chase mark.

Our runner at Hexham is Eagles Cairn in the 13.35, he was very green in his two bumpers last season but the penny eventually dropped late on in his second run and he stayed on nicely to be third. He’s done plenty of schooling ahead of his hurdling debut tomorrow and jumps well, I’ve a feeling he might be green again early on though but will hopefully warm into the race and run well. He is a stuffy horse so I hope he will be fit enough to come up the hill, either way he will improve a lot for the run.

Everyday Champagne has been retired to the point to point field after another gallant front running effort at Ayr last week. Here he is with his new trainer who came to try him out earlier this week.
