Kelso in the sun tomorrow with 3 runners.

Another bright sunny day and still no rain in the 14 day forecast, we’ve been here before at this time of year but never quite to this extent.  Let’s hope something changes otherwise there could be serious implications for racing with the Environment Agencies becoming increasingly anxious.  It does make for some glorious mornings on the gallops and it is a joy to be out each day with the 20 horses that remain in work – spring bursting forth.

An inauspicious start to the 2025/26 Season with a lacklustre effort from Boolamore Classic at Hexham, been a long season for him and let’s hope for better at Kelso tomorrow where we have three declared horses on ground that I hope will be no firmer than good.

My Lady Elektra

We start with two mares in the staying handicap hurdle at 2.25 – My Lady Elektra (Bruce) and So Ladylike (Tash), 6 run.  My Lady Elektra has been running well at a higher level recently and ought to appreciate the drop in class tomorrow and being able to run off her mark again, just hope it isn’t one race too many for her.  So Ladylike ran an excellent race here last time and wasn’t beaten far at all, she should also improve for the step back up in trip.

Lucky Soldier (Bruce) runs in the 3.25, back over hurdles after a disastrous attempt at fences at Carlisle last time.  No horse has ever done more jumping here than him and I don’t think any horse has ever jumped worse on the track!  Confusing though because even this morning a wise gallop watcher suggested he’d be better over fences when watching him jump hurdles.  Frustrating as he has ability, if the work we have done on his hurdling pays off he could run very well in a race lacking depth – 10 run.

A low key Kelso card and seems strange have no chases at what is very much seen as a chasing track but hats off to the team there for the effort that has gone into watering the hurdle track to produce what will hopefully be nice ground.
