Slightly milder now, wind in the west and some sunny days this week. Off to Newcastle tomorrow with one runner; Boolamore Classic in the 13.35 with Bruce on board, the ground is good to soft and 15 run.

“Boo” has become frustrating since winning last January and as a result is now 4lb below that mark; he has plenty of ability but doesn’t always choose to apply himself either at home or on the racecourse. He seems fit and well and we have trained him differently in an attempt to freshen him up, he is certainly fresh at home and we have a set of blinkers on for the first time in the hope that he will get stuck in tomorrow, trip/ground combination may be on the sharp side so Bruce will try to ride him prominently. Fingers crossed for a better run.
Beat the Retreat (Dom)
A fine day in not so fine weather at Musselburgh last Sunday with Beat the Retreat winning the conditional jockey’s handicap hurdle for the second year in succession under a good ride from Dom. Artic Mann rolled back the years to finish a gallant third, Anamanda was 4th (back up in trip for her) and Lester Mail was 5th (up in trip for him next time as well). At Carlisle on Monday Eagle’s Cairn ran much better until tiring between the last two hurdles.

Today we said goodbye to two lovely horses who have been with us for a number of years; Theme Tune and Travail d’Orfevre. Always sad but a huge comfort that they are going together to a fabulous new home in the Angus Glens and we wish them the very best for their second careers. We have also decided to retire Elvis Mail; more of him later but he has been the most wonderful horse for the yard and like the other two, retires in the very best of health and soundness.
