Cold again today, a bitter east wind, same everywhere and free of frost and snow so shouldn’t complain. On to Newcastle tomorrow where we have two runners on ground that will be mostly soft.
We start with My Kiwi Girl in the Mares Maiden 1.40; she has been progressing nicely over hurdles and seems in very good form so should go well again, her main dangers appear to be coming from across the Irish sea which is unusual for a race at this level – hopefully she can see them off! Ozzy Cosmo runs in the Novice Chase at 2.50; he has lost his way since winning on yard and rules debut 14 months ago, we are dropping back in trip tomorrow and putting on some cheek pieces to help him focus on the job in hand. Conor rides and 5 run.

No winners at Ayr yesterday but five of our six runners made the frame which was encouraging; Ballyfort travelled in to the race with ease but found nothing off the bridle, his head coming up under pressure, finished 4th but he is better than that so has had a minor wind operation this morning. Master Bricklayer didn’t really travel but stayed on well to be third looking like a step up in trip was on the cards. Artic Row ran an excellent race, jumping well to put up a career best under top weight to be 2nd to a progressive rival. Scarlet Jet also put up a career best to be a strong finishing 3rd as did Scalloway Bay to be 4th. The disappointment of the afternoon was Half Track; trainer error I am afraid, he had lost more fitness during a little setback than I thought – we live and learn!
