Fine weather, warm and sunny and conditions drying out at Perth ahead of their two day May meeting which kicks off tomorrow evening, we have 7 declared runners on ground that I hope won’t end up any quicker than good otherwise we may end up with a few less.
We start with Moore’s Novelty in the 6.05 2m 4f maiden hurdle, he ran no race here the last time and we are going to try a couple of different things tomorrow as he has plenty of ability, it’s an ordinary race with the exception of one very good horse (priced up at odds of 1-20 on!) so hopefully he will run a bit better, 11 run and Lucy rides.
Then in the novice handicap chase at 6.35 we run Calivigny, a drop in grade and trip for him which will be interesting and I’m delighted that we have a guest jockey on board in the form of accomplished amateur Jack Andrews who will claim a valuable 7lb, 8 run and he should go well in this grade if not inconvenienced by the drop to 2m.
Jolie Crickette runs in the mares hurdle at 7.05, again dropping back in distance and grade she wasn’t beaten far at all last time so will hopefully put up a bold show as I see this as her optimum trip & going – Lucy rides and 10 run.
A brief interlude with no runner in the 7.35 prior to Dutch Canyon running in the 8.05, he should be much more at home on this sounder surface and will hopefully leave his last run behind him – 14 run and Grant rides.
Then we have two runners in the 8.35, Landecker (Jack Andrews) and Jet Master (Lucy) – both are at the top of the weights but have a decent chance on these terms if putting their best foot forward though they have been on the go for a long time now, 12 run.
Finally Kit rides Thomond in what looks like a particularly competitive renewal of the Bruce Farms Hunter Chase, 5 of the 6 best horses running all evening are contesting this race and Thomond will need to bounce right back to his best Irish form to be involved, we are trying a few different things to try to tease this out of him so here’s hoping! Should be an excellent meeting with plenty of top trainers and jockeys involved as should “Ladies Day2 on Thursday where we hope to have a further six runners.
