Perth today and Perth yesterday

Cool again today, blustery showers and ground at Perth much softer than anticipated, much huffing and puffing but its been an exceptionally long and wet winter followed by a cold and slow spring so it is what it is and we have five runners on soft/heavy in places today.

Christmas in USA

We start with two runners in the 2.55, Christmas in USA (Grant) and Moores Novelty (Lucy), the former won’t mind the ground, will appreciate the drop back in trip so could go well, the latter needs much better ground but needs to run having been ready for many weeks, 14 run.

Moores Novelty

Then in the 3.30 we run Fly Rory Fly, stable debut, needs better ground but is another who has been ready to go for a long time and needs a run – Lucy rides and 6 run.  Landecker runs in the conditional jockeys staying hurdle at 4.35, Grant rides and 10 run, he has run very well in the last two renewals of this race but again would much prefer better ground, hopefully he will show a little more enthusiasm after a reluctant display at Kelso last time.

Landecker

Finally we run Craiganboy in the 5.10 – he reverts to hurdles, won’t mind the ground at all but is really back on a confidence booster having hurt himself at Ayr in mid winter.  Jolie Crickette and Calivigny are non runners as were only declared in case of mishaps when they ran yesterday which was a very mixed sort of day for the yard.

Craiganboy

We were delighted to see Jolie Crickette come back to form to finish a close 5th in the mares hurdle despite the ground/trip/obstacles essentially being against her, hopefully she can have a fruitful spring campaign.  Jet Master fell heavily heading out into the 2nd circuit in the feature chase, he had a nasty enough little cut and is understandably stiff and sore but was well looked after by the racecourse vets, ate up and is bright today – all being well he should be fine in a few days.

Dutch Canyon

It was far too soft for Dutch Canyon and Andhaar who finished 8th & 10th in the amateur hurdle, and it was on the soft side for Calivigny who ran OK to finish 4th, rallying well after hitting a flat spot 5 out. Eagle Ridge was a non runner.
