Musselburgh today, Ayr tomorrow

Happy New Year! – much colder today, a biting North wind but bright and sunny and a great atmosphere for Musselburgh’s New Year meeting with ITV kicking off their racing coverage.  Landecker was slowly into stride but then travelled well and stayed on but you can’t get away with that at Musselburgh so he never got into the race and finished 8th, a good win down at Catterick for Lucy though on Touch of Steel.  Off to Ayr tomorrow so long as they pass the 8.30am inspection and we have 4 declared runners on ground that will be very soft, just hope not too holding.

We start with course and distance winner Bertalus in the 1pm, Lucy rides and 9 run, he has been disappointing this season since losing his confidence over fences, we are putting a visor on for the first time to concentrate his mind and hopefully stop him worrying about things, he has been in great form at home so we are hoping for much better.

Massini’s Lady

Massini’s Lady then runs in the 1.30, 12 run and if she can build on her recent second at the track she shouldn’t be far away, Brian Harding rides.

The Orange Rogue

Conditions should suit The Orange Rogue in the 2pm, he’s been in good form and will have come on for his seasonal debut at Newcastle over an inadequate trip, 5 run and Tony Kelly rides.  Finally  Clan Chief runs in the 3pm, Brian Harding rides and 6 run, I suspect he wants better ground but he won a bumper round here on heavy and is well handicapped as and when all clicks into place.  Lucy also rides The Wise One in the 12.30, Sky Full of Stars in the 3.00 and Innisfree Lad in the 3.30.
