Showery mild sort of day and we are off to Carlisle where we have one runner, Calivigny in the 3.10, Lucy rides and 11 run. It’s frustrating that he hasn’t yet won over fences having filled the runner up slot 4 times, he’s off a good mark now though, has good course and distance form, goes well fresh and has had a wind operation so I’m wondering what will go wrong! Fingers crossed he will run a decent race.
A mixed bag of runners over the weekend, here is a quick appraisal – Christmas in USA ran well enough to be 6th, 2 miles on good ground is too sharp for him and he’s better on a flat track so he won’t be far away if we can find the right conditions next time. McGinty’s Dream was as frustrating as ever, appear to now have over-relaxed him and he didn’t apply himself much at all, another change of tactics required in the search for the key.
At Kelso Landecker also failed to apply himself appearing far too wise, he’s very well at home so we need to take him somewhere he hasn’t been before, he should be out again soon, Benny’s Secret ran a much better race to be 3rd and should come on for this seasonal reappearance, Left Back was OK in what was his first proper race under rules – a more galloping track and slightly softer ground will help so long as the handicapper does his bit as well!
