Very dark in the mornings now, clocks changing this weekend so a brief respite, a bit cooler but at last it looks like a few drier days. One runner at Carlisle today, Calivigny in the 2.50, 10 run and Lucy rides, ground described as heavy, soft places – we are hoping it will have dried a bit.
Calivigny – he jumps a little right at his fences so seems better suited by a right handed track, hood swapped for cheek pieces today.
He ran very well over course and distance twice later last season looking like he would improve for further; this is fine first time back though especially with more testing underfoot conditions, he’s wearing first time cheek pieces just to sharpen him up a little. Let’s hope he runs well because it is the first time Lucy will be riding for her new sponsor Humphrey Butler – have a good look at his excellent website and start saving up for Christmas!
Better idea- ask Humphrey to sell your heirlooms and buy a horse – be good to get Lucy on horses like this one ridden by his previous jockey!
Dance of Fire ran well for a mile at Newcastle and folded up in the last 2f, Graham Lee was happier with the run than the trainer and thought that in what was a competitive strongly run race he didn’t stay, he may well go back there in a fortnight for a race over a mile.
