Dullish sort of weather this morning, quiet enough and things beginning to dry up a bit. A lengthy delay at Luton Airport last night, home in the early hours, not ideal ahead of what promises to be a busy day at Ayr today but Catch and the team once again have everything running smoothly. Ground is heavy, soft in places, prefer a shower to freshen it up as could be holding after a drying 48 hours and to be honest quite a few of our runners have been deliberately avoiding this type of ground for the last few weeks, we’ve sort of got to the point though where opportunities (especially at Ayr) are starting to run out and with small fields I feel it is worth taking the chance, let’s hope I still feel that way by the end of the day.
So, nine declared runners starting with two in the first race at 2.10, Just Brooke (Blair Campbell) was a little keen last time and needs to learn to settle so she can see her races out, Left Back (Grant Cockburn) is making his stable debut and is a chaser in the making, 9 run. Then in the 3.20 we run Christmas in USA (Kit) who looks well treated on his old form if or when we can find the key to him, he’s had a nice break so we are hoping for a lot better today, Andhaar (Blair Campbell) would prefer better ground but is fresh and well, 7 run.
Benny’s Secret (Brian Harding) runs in the 3.55, he wasn’t at all right after he cam back from Uttoxeter in November so we have him plenty of time but he’s been ready for a good few weeks now and whilst I am sure he would prefer better ground we felt it was worth him taking his chance here, 8 run. Then in the 4.30 we run Buffalo Ballet (Brian Harding) and Marlee Massie (Brian Hughes), they would both prefer better ground and are closely matched in what is only a four runner affair.
There’s only three in the 5.00 and we run Gold Opera under Brian Hughes, a tight little handicap that could go to any of the three though Gold Opera will be hard to beat if in the same form as at Newcastle two weeks ago, far from certain despite appearing on top of his game at home. Finally we run Another Mattie in the 5.35, Kit rides and 5 run, he should have a great chance on the basis of his last two runs.
