Cold this morning, frost coming in with first light and a stormy week forecast.  Gallop seems in good order and should be OK for some schooling by second lot.  Wintery at Kelso yesterday, sleet, snow and a bitter wind, brave horses and brave riders, mixed performances from the horses; Spinning Away rapped the first hurdle and took no interest after that, possible explanation being that she may have been coming in to season, Bertie Milan doesn’t want to raise a gallop at the races despite working better than ever at home, very frustrating.  The ground was too soft for Isla Pearl Fisher but he galloped on resolutely to finish 4th in the Borders National and then Little Glenshee coped well with the step up in grade to finish a good 3rd in the 2m 7f handicap chase,  she is still improving and touch wood will be seen to good effect back at 2m 4f when the ground is really deep.

On Saturday at Aintree Frankie’s Promise also coped with the step up in grade to finish 8th but his jumping needs to be slicker for him to be properly competitive at this level.  Over at Wetherby Gold Opera ran no race and will be thoroughly checked out this week, Another Mattie had the confidence boosting round required, as with many horses who have done a lot of hurdling he is taking time to adapt to the larger obstacles.

So a busy weekend but feeling surprisingly chipper this morning and lots to bash on with, very pleased to have all the horses back here in one piece but most of all delighted with the performance of team Kinneston.  Despite bad weather, last minute changes of plan by trainer and having two key players on the sidelines the team rallied round to produce horses looking immaculate all over the country, back here all the horses received their usual exercise and the yard looked immaculate when I was poking around early this morning, well done everyone.  No runners for us at Musselburgh today but Lucy is there to ride Trouble in Paris in the 2.50 and Ca Le Ferra in the 3.20, we plan to be at Hexham on Wednesday and Newcastle on Thursday, and I spy another double header next weekend….
