A lovely morning, sunny with a warm easterly breeze, happy horses, not too hot and the breeze keeping the flies away.  Busy on the yard and around the farm and pleased to see a real difference in some of the horses since the beginning of the week, its an interesting and rewarding time of year watching them pull together and change shape, wish I could do the same myself!  A thoroughly entertaining “initiation” for Kit and me at the annual National Hunt Golf Outing this week, this has been going for many years now and I am pleased to have finally managed to join, aside from a lot of high jinks and laughter this industry outing raises a  decent sum for a selection of very worthy causes and apart from being a good opportunity to exchange ideas it was highly entertaining to see everyone “off-duty” – I had no idea the ex (next?) champion trainer was a poet, but then again, perhaps he isn’t!  Lucy had a good comeback ride at Beverley earlier in the week, 3rd of 17 and will be busy at Cartmel tomorrow, Maggie Blue in the 2.45, Soul Magic 3.55, Life and Soul 4.30, Maybe I Wont 5.05 and Gold Chain 5.35.  It looks like an excellent day’s racing so I think I will offer my services as chauffeur, might not make it there this year otherwise and I’m missing the M74, it should be fun – come along, have a look here – www.cartmel-racecourse.co.uk
