Cold and frosty here today, a dusting of snow, a quiet day for the horses with 40 mins on the walker. Despite a long drive to Haydock and back yesterday very disappointed that the West Percy point to point at Alnwick has become our third fixture in seven days to fall victim to the weather, can’t be helped and delighted to see that Ayr have covered the entire course in fleeces to try to protect the ground for Wednesday. Presently waiting for the Alnwick lorry to return with Master Butcher, Catch and Kit on board, after an early start for all they had reached Berwick prior to the abandonment being announced; at least I don’t have to decide whether to bill the owner for the abortive costs this time!
It’s a fine day so I suspect I will head up the hill once they are back. Great racing at Haydock yesterday and delighted with Little Glenshee who despite being outpaced early stayed on very strongly and was only just beaten for 2nd picking up some good place money. Left wondering what her best trip might be for the future though as she was doing her best work at the end of a strongly run 2m 5f on heavy ground having been held up off the pace, hmm, answers on a postcard please… Wicklow Lad ran very well for a long way until lack of match fitness and the strong pace took their toll, both horses seem bright and well today and will hopefully be out again soon.
Looks like a frosty week ahead so will have to decide whether to travel horses down to Wetherby tomorrow afternoon, no information from them as to whether they have deployed frost covers, and will then be desperately hoping Ayr goes ahead on Wednesday, after that it will be the Jedforest point to point next Sunday, fingers crossed all round I say!
