Bright but cold today, some flurries of snow yesterday morning, a stark contrast to the 20 degrees experienced at Perth earlier in the week.

AP waves farewell on a day of extraordinary emotion

AP waves farewell on a day of extraordinary emotion.  There are no words for me to add to the many heartfelt tributes; I just hope he doesn’t find it all too painful and can find fulfillment in the next stage of his life, more than anyone he deserves to, he has been so good for racing partly because of what is almost his most admirable trait – humility.

What a wonderful day to end the 2014/15 NH Season yesterday, both down at Sandown where the closing fixture of the season witnessed truly historic and unforgettable scenes as the greatest jockey finally hung up his boots and at Balcormo where a large crowd gathered in lovely sunshine to enjoy a relaxed afternoon of point-to-pointing, and of course it helped that both of our runners won!

Rossini's Dancer just prevails in the Men's Open yesterday, I was concerned that the runner up Some Target would outstay Ross having been 5th in the NH Chase at the Cheltenham Festival for W Mullins when rated 140. This was Ross's 77th start and at 3m 2f the furthest he has won over, he has been a very specail horse and many thanks are due to HWT and friends for leasing him to us for this p2p season and Mrs B for finding him in the first place.

And it was even closer for Back on the Road who only just got back up after being headed on the run in, another very special horse and another veteran of the Cheltenham Festival

A good day at Perth on Friday as well where Bertie Milan ran the most gallant of races to finish 4th in the Highland National and Presenting Rose built on the promise of her debut to finish 3rd in the bumper at the much appreciated odds of 33-1.

Bertie Milan heads to post on at Perth on Friday

Bertie Milan (Lucy) heads to post on at Perth on Friday, I suspect his brave 4th was a career best effort.

Wicklow Lad unfortunately parted company with Stephen at the first but looked to enjoy galloping and jumping a full 3 circuits of the track, Clan Legend ran well for a long way on his handicap debut before weakening in the home straight.

So we have a few quiet days on the racing front, time to reflect, time to plan.  Not for long though as we have Andhaar entered on the flat at Musselburgh on Friday and are likely to be at the Lauderdale p2p and Hexham on Saturday and we are active in the market for some new talent for next season.  We have one new horse in transit from Ireland and a couple more to buy, lots of sales coming up so do let me know if you would like to join in the fun. Obviously there is a huge choice at the sales but one thing that I would point out is that the 8 or so horses that I had seen in Ireland all made at least 20-30% more at Brightwells on Friday than they had been offered to us for pre the sale, worth bearing in mind!
