.. to my surprise Makhzoon put us back amongst the winners yesterday when he won the opener at Wetherby by 13 lengths, horses never cease to confound one’s expectations, at least the right way round for once and a splendid photograph in today’s RP, handicapper will hit him hard for this so if he is in good shape he may reappear at Carlisle on Sunday.photo Another Mattie bounced right back to his best to finish 3rd in a decent novice hurdle and then Spinning Away as expected improved to travel strongly until tiring in the last 100 yards in the competitive mares bumper, more to come from both of these promising youngsters I hope.  No runners at Musselburgh tomorrow (increasing source of frustration, excellent prize money there through the winter, we are on the doorstep and had 4 winners from 20 runners there last season – 20% – please someone…..) but Lucy is busy with Geanie Mac in the 1.45, Claragh Native in the 2.20, Lillieoftheballet in the 2.55 and Trackanais in the 3.25.

This un-named 4yo son of Dushyantor ex winning flat mare French Pick will hopefully have a racecourse gallop at Musselburgh tomorrow

This un-named 4yo son of Dushyantor ex winning flat mare French Pick might run at Musselburgh on Monday 9th Dec – for sale!

With short days and long journeys the norm at present we have not only been despatching the horses a day ahead but trainer has also been heading South late afternoon on the previous day recently, dragging along a few owners for a pre race dinner etc (on the basis that in racing the anticipation tends to be the best bit!).  Last week it was the splendid George & Dragon near Penrith and this week evensong in the wonderful Durham Cathedral prior to Kit showing us some student nightlife, where next week I wonder?
