Damp again this morning, dull and not especially warm, it’s the 14th of July and I think it has rained every day of the month so far, the baking heat and cloudless skies of Provence seem but a distant memory.  It was actually quite nice at Perth on Sunday, a huge crowd and good competitive racing but no winners for Mr Elliot from his 48 entries, reminds us that this game is never easy.

Perth

A brief lull in the sporting summer after another splendidly uplifting weekend, brief indeed because the Lords Test looms and of course The Open at St Andrews starts on Thursday – looking at the forecast they might find it quite tricky with a decent wind to start blowing on Friday morning – should be great fun.  And let’s not forget tomorrow’s enigma in the Commons, a free vote on whether to align English Hunting legislation with Scottish Hunting legislation and it looks like failing because the SNP members (none of whom of course received a single vote from anyone in England) want to prove a point ahead of the Prime Minister’s plans to stop them being able to vote on issues that only affect England – quite why they want to do it on an issue that so clearly does not involve Scotland I don’t understand as surely it will only strengthen the resolve of DC to ensure it can’t happen in the future – seems bizarre tactics to me…
