As fine a week’s weather as I can remember and a fortuitous time to spend 72 hours roaming in the hills, splendid, and a few self-indulgent photographs below.  Good progress on the farm and with the horses here but not the weather for NH racing and a quiet weekend beckons on that front.

To be honest the ground at Hexham would probably have been fine for Marlee Massie but despite the fact that he would have started a short priced favourite the risk/reward ratio felt wrong to me with such crummy prize money on offer.  Coupled with the fact that I own the horse and wasn’t able to go down it just didn’t seem worthwhile, there is a bit of a trend developing among owners here and elsewhere in that they are becoming more discerning as to where they want to race their horses prize money wise.

Sometimes we have no choice but when we do we will support the tracks that support us.  Anyway having said all that I’m not sure we will be running anything at Kelso either where the prize money is excellent but the ground just a bit too firm… perhaps a rare opportunity to enjoy the first class racing at LongchampP1050441
