So after enjoying 72 hours of 30 degrees and cloudless skies we return to 50mph winds, heavy showers and reports on the news that it is 2 degrees on the top of the Pennines.  Lovely.  At least it will be stopping the ground drying out too much up at Perth where they have an excellent card for their Gold Cup Day tomorrow including the best renewal of the feature race that I can remember. We aren’t represented in that race but have two runners on ground that is currently “good”.  Marlee Massie runs in the 3.20, Lucy rides and 12 run, he carries bottom weight of 10st in this 2m novice handicap, will like the ground and will have come on a lot for his seasonal debut last month but I suspect time will tell that he really needs 2m 4f plus, he could still run well on these terms.

Andhaar (Crawford)

Andhaar (Crawford)

Then in the 4.55 we run Andhaar, Lucy rides and 13 run, he has been off for two years but had a warm up on the flat last month and seems fit now, this trip could also be on the sharp side for him  and he has to shoulder top weight but he is a smart horse if we can rekindle his form of two summers ago.  Derby Day of course, suspect I will be listening in from my car whilst trying to watch a cricket match, a race that 10 days ago perhaps lacked a little intrigue is now full of wonderful possibilities and whilst it would be wonderful if Golden Horn or Elm Park could win for traditional British breeding interests we learnt yesterday never to underestimate Ballydoyle – the gypsies certainly aren’t….
