Another sunny day but some heavy showers on their way later, excellent fields for Perth’s Gold Cup day tomorrow where the ground is presently good to soft, we have two declared runners starting with Slaney Star in the 3.20. He arrived here a few weeks ago having been the convincing winner of a Worcester seller, we have done quite a lot of work with him and he clearly has some ability if it can be channeled the right way but I am not convinced he is very well handicapped and tomorrow’s race is very competitive – Lucy rides and 13 run.
Then, if it rains a lot, we will run Wicklow Lad in the Gold Cup at 4.25, Lucy rides and 11 run, we have kept him ticking over for this race in case it came up soft but he must have deep ground to show his best. Lucy also rides Molly Milan in the 4.55 and she is at Hexham today to ride Solis in the 3.20, Bell Weir in the 4.20 and Glenbury in the 5.30.
We had a few days away this week, relaxing in the sun, time to reflect and read, greatly enjoyed Marcus Armitage’s article in the Daily Telegraph on Nick Wrigley as he steps down as Senior Steward of The Jockey Club, very modest considering the progress made over the last five years; the Wrigley’s have a few interests on the flat and have been great supporters of Clive Storey’s point-to-point yard for the last few years, last Sunday they enjoyed a memorable treble at the Haydon point-to-point – proper grass roots stuff and so valuable that those managing the big issues in the higher echelons of the sport understand and appreciate the breadth of the supporting pyramid.
