Deeply mixed emotions on the first day at Perth, an exhilarating win in the first race from Dan Macdonald’s Standintheband then great sadness with the fatal fall of Goldtrek in the second.

Hard to take in and much of the rest of the afternoon spent in thought, but a wonderful finish to the afternoon with Lucy completing a double on Deepsand for Tim Easterby with the sun setting in the famous Hemmings colours, watched by me in blissful solitude from the centre of the track.  Goldtrek was a classy American bred mare who had become very much part of the Kinneston family and will be sorely missed by everyone here as well as her owners John, Susan, Sarah, Graham and Wattie.

Move on we must and today at Perth we run Another Mattie (Lucy) in the first, first run over hurdles, nice introduction required, then King Brex (Kit) in the 2.45 should improve for the better ground (Lucy on King’s Chorister in this), Academy in the 3.45 (Lucy) will hopefully improve for the step up in trip and should jump better than on Sunday, Noir et Vert in the Hunter Chase at 4.45, herculean effort by Uncle Jamie to do the weight and should be worth it, then Jet Master (Lucy) in the 5.20 – again will prefer this trip.
