A special day yesterday, a couple of hours catching up with the horses and in the office then off to the Perthshire hills in perfect Autumn sunshine, Ben Vrackie and beyond, communing with clucking grouse and roaring stags, then a splendid dinner in the Meiklour Arms followed by Homeland on TV, doesn’t get much better than that.

Sharing Sunday Lunch with that dog

Down at Hexham on Saturday our three youngsters appeared a bit weak to cope with the demands of the country’s stiffest track, Clan Legend ran well before tiring but I thought the other two would do better, time enough for them, an easier track next time I think.

Slightly disconcerted to find my entire ARC rant quoted in the RP on Saturday, I might have phrased it a little differently had I known; the one further point that I would have made is that I have absolutely no problem with their commercial approach, it is vital that racecourses are profitable,  however racing must be robust in insisting the and agreements re prize money are binding so that Horsemen have a supplier contract in the same way that other ARC suppliers do; the present situation appears not to reflect that and allows them to pay what they want in prize money, therefore to say one thing and do another which does not make for a trusting long term business relationship.

Worse for wear - Mrs A's boots by the time she had finished with them yesterday - oops!

So, a routine morning here, horses appearing well; a nice horse just arrived from Ireland, a Musselburgh type I hope, need a few more of those, and Kelso entries today – what we end up running will as ever depend on the weather.
