A tricky spell of weather, a proper blizzard yesterday; I was watching from afar and Catch and the team did a brilliant job to exercise 38 horses in the circumstances, cold and sunny this morning but the trickiest of conditions with frozen semi-melted snow everywhere.

A little innovation required but the whole string had three canters in the snow, fresh horses so a few more unseats than we are used to but hopefully the all-weather will be serviceable again in the morning having been harrowed tonight.

One runner at Newcastle tomorrow where the ground will be particularly heavy, Gold Opera in the 4.30, 7 run and Brian Hughes rides, heĀ seems in great heart, won’t mind the ground – it is a tight little handicap but I will be disappointed if he isn’t involved at the business end of the race.

Back down the road to Corbridge on Sunday for the Tynedale point-to-point, Jamie will run Royal Chatelier and possibly Allthekingshorses as well if conditions aren’t too soft, Kit should have a few rides as well, then it’s Ayr on Monday…
