A glorious day at a well attended West Percy point-to-point at Alnwick with loads of runners and an excellent atmosphere; great fun though it came of weeks too soon for Wicklow Lad who tired in the closing stages of a competitive Mens Open and blew hard, we will see how he goes next time but he’s a been a tremendous horse for the yard and we won’t persevere if it appears age is catching up with him, unfortunately Royal Chatelier was found to be lame when he came off the lorry – he was due to my 1595th runner and he’s the first one that this has happened to, all I can say is I hope I have another 1595 before it happens again!

All dressed up with nowhere to go – Royal Chatelier being plaited up at Alnwick this afternoon before he was found to be lame – something simple I am sure.

A great result at Newcastle yesterday with McGinty’s Dream progressing rather faster than I thought he was to win the staying handicap hurdle easily from 9lb out of the handicap. a bit of a surprise to say the least but a very nice one!  He will be thumped by the handicapper for winning on these terms but really pleased that the penny has dropped with him and he should be able to go on from here.

McGinty’s Dream skipping clear at the last at Newcastle

Here’s to Harry was most unlucky, he was brought to a standstill at the first and wisely pulled up shortly after by Lucy, we will have to find another day for him, Off the Hook ran well for a long way before tiring on the holding ground but Final Reminder didn’t seem to act on the ground at all and will be given a break.  A quiet weel ahead racing wise, next runners hopefully at Kelso on Sunday then Ayr on Monday and Tuesday though it looks like it could be turning rather cold….

McGinty’s Dream is bred to be a good horse and looks like he should be a good horse, what goes on in his head is a bit of a mystery  but maybe we have now found the key.
