A glorious May monday morning, one of the very best and the farm looking in tremendous fettle.  Only 14 to ride today, either hacking out on the farm or on the all-weather, final preparations being made to the summer “riverbank” gallop and thinking about a summer grass gallop.

A fine day at the Border point-to-point at Hexham racecourse yesterday, I forget how much fun the two late fixtures there are, especially when it is sunny and warm like yesterday; Noir et Vert found the going too tacky but Ocarina put up what was probably his best performance this season to finish a good 2nd in a competitive Men’s Open.  This week we may have a runner at Wetherby on Thursday and then possibly Kelso next Sunday, meanwhile the window for refurbishing the stables here seems to get narrower every year so plenty to sort out in that regard and then off to the sales…..
