Very mild, overcast but dry, for now.  An honest and perceptive article about Lucy in today’s Racing Post, well worth reading and you can see the full article here.  Two lorries en route for Newcastle this morning prior to it’s 8.15am abandonment, frustrating but I am fully behind racecourses giving fixtures every chance and appreciate the efforts made to stage racing.  However that is the third Newcastle fixture in a row that we have lost and this has a serious impact on our ability find opportunities for our horses at a busy time of year.  Given that we have had a relatively dry week and that Newcastle in the past could take plenty of rain one is left to conclude that the current difficulties must relate to the installation of the all-weather track around the outside of Newcastle’s jumps course.  If this is the case and there are likely to be ongoing drainage problems then ARC need to put their hands up and arrange for the transfer of these fixtures to another track in the North because the present situation is damaging our businesses.  Let’s hope that isn’t the case and that the remaining fixtures take place as scheduled.

An exuberant Wicklow Lad heads to post at Alnwick yesterday

A splendid day in many ways, but not all, at the Alnwick point-to-point yesterday with all three of our runners performing well on ground that was very testing.  In the 10 runner NPPA Club race Wicklow Lad was a gutsy winner under Kit but he was also fortunate in that his Uncle Jamie was 6l clear on the 6-4 fav Royal Chatelier prior to being unshipped when the horse blundered at the 2nd last, Jamie initially thought he was fine but x-rays this morning have revealed a broken bone in his hand, he will be back soon I am sure.

A suitably select crowd stayed on to enjoy the three runner maiden at the end of the day and I was very pleased that after two years off Here’s to Harry put in an excellent round of jumping to finish a decent enough 2nd, more to come from him we hope.   No Wetherby for us tomorrow, Doncaster later in the week a probability and  with a lack of opportunites up here I find myself making entries for Uttoxeter on Saturday, whatever next….

Here's to Harry pops the last, I really didn't think he was fit enough to complete 3m on that ground...
