Brutal weather this morning, 65mph winds driving icy rain across the gallops, grim conditions for the team but 30 horses exercised and all justly proud of Clan Legend who won well down at Haydock yesterday, an important win for the yard at a number of levels.  For once a change of tactics worked and this tough horse appears to be improving as I had hoped he would, rising 8 tomorrow there should be more to come.

Lucy looks round on the run in at Haydock yesterday

That was his 8th win from his last 14 starts and the 28th winner for his dam Harrietfield, her conception arranged by my late Father in 1991 – some legacy, so much fun.

Gold Opera didn’t fire, not sure why, perhaps the ground a bit too extreme for him and Lucy pulled him up before too much damage was done.Hogmanay tonight then Musselburgh’s excellent New Years Day fixture tomorrow with good competitive racing in prospect for very good prize money, we have two runners on ground that should be good to soft starting with Benny’s Secret in the 2.50, he has won his last two races and is on an upward curve, a doubt going right handed round this sharper track but he seems well and should give a good account, 9 run and Lucy rides.

Then in the 3.25 Dutch Canyon makes his seasonal reappearance in the 6 runner novice handicap chase, he has a very low weight in an ordinary race and looks well treated on his better hurdle form, doubt must be that he hasn’t run well in either of his two previous races at this track but he’s in great form and it’s certainly worth a go. So, another year over all too quickly, happy new year everyone and a healthy and prosperous 2018.
