Cold and wet this morning but brighter now and pleased to have seen some rain.  Well, what a race, what a horse, so good looking, the embodiment of a brave staying chaser; so, so brave, he gave absolutely everything, whether he has as much to give ever again only time will tell but relish the moment, ten minutes later when he recovered he looked magnificent again, head held high, ears pricked, coat gleaming.

Over the line - Leighton was certainly smiling this time!

Delighted for him and his connections all stalwarts of the sport who thoroughly deserve this success.  So much drama, I felt totally drained afterwards but nothing like roast beef, good claret followed by fine Armagnac and the Masters to banish the blues. Have foregone the Morpeth Point-to-Point today for a day in the office, time to catch up and Kelso to look forward to tomorrow where once again they have put together an excellent card of competitive racing.  The ground should be good and we have three runners all of whom seem to have been allocated rather a lot of weight, never mind, I suppose it means they are decent horses.

Always Tipsy

Always Tipsy

We start with Always Tipsy in the 3pm, Stephen rides and claims a handy 5lb off his 11st 10lb burden, 11 run in this very competitive little handicap but this horse put up a career best at Wetherby last time and we have had this race in mind since then so I hope he can run well.

Landecker, we've changed a few things at home and will change a few things tomorrow, he won on this card last year.

Then in the 4.00pm we run Landecker, 10 run, 11st 12lb top weight, Lucy rides.  He has been disappointing since his course and distance win back in October, the handicapper has had him in his grip and may still do but we have changed a few things at home, he seems well and this is a drop in class so will hope for the best.  Finally we run Isla Pearl Fisher in the feature handicap chase, another 11st 12lb top weight to we are putting Kit on to claim 7lb, 10 run, he has had a few minor issues which I think we have addressed, we will hopefully find out tomorrow, he seems very well and this is also a drop in class.  No runner in the Buccleuch Cup but Lucy rides Quicuyo in the 2.30.  Sorry, can’t resist another plug for our two Perth prospects, and these prices include all costs until 30.04.2015 – look here  Marvellous article in today’s RP on Lie Forrit, yes, sport matters.
