A wonderful horse race yesterday, full of drama and excitement but mercifully free of serious injury to horse or rider, something to celebrate and I especially enjoyed “AP” and Richard Johnson congratulating Leighton Aspell, it was his day and they were so genuinely pleased for him, perfect. Not so bad on the tipping front either, thank goodness for “Trendy.” Busy morning here as we prepare for a busy day at Kelso tomorrow, very mild but still no sign of the sun, we have seven horses declared to run and they have all been exercised and bathed by our slimmed down Sunday team. The ground at Kelso is good to soft but there is plenty of rain around and it may ease further, we start with Another Mattie (Lucy) in the 2pm, 11 run, he has run some excellent races in defeat and seems in good order but I am concerned there may be one or two too good for him again. Then Landecker runs in the 2.30, his winning form has worked out well but I still fear be may have been slightly flattered that day, he wouldn’t want too much rain. In the 3.30 we run Makhzoon (D O’Regan) and The Orange Rogue (Lucy), more rain the better for them, Makhzoon has been a great servant and is in good form, he should like the track and trip, TOR steps up in trip for his first handicap and seems well, 8 run. Then in the 4.oo, the Buccleuch Cup, we run Present Potential (Kit), 10 run, he has been running well in point-to-points, has plenty of racecourse proper experience and should appreciate the extended 3m trip, not too much rain for him please. In the 4.30, the Sheena Cochrane Celebration Chase, we run course specialist Or de Grugy, he seems well and conditions should suit but he has been creeping up the handicap which is tough for a 12yo in what looks like a competitive race, 9 run. Finally we run The Flaming Matron in the 5pm, 5 run, Lucy rides, she should appreciate the better ground.
