The most dreich of mornings and it only seems appropriate that we are caste in gloom after the dreadful and shocking attacks in Paris.  My heart bleeds for a beautiful city that is cherished by so many of us, torn apart by the acts of maniacs and there is no doubt that it feels even more poignant that the only British victim named so far shares my name.  I am meant to be travelling to Paris this time next week to race at Autueil and Enghein, it will seem strange to intrude upon their grief looking for horses but perhaps not to travel there is worse… At times one is so profoundly moved it is hard to revert to the mundanity of normal life, on the other hand perhaps we are blessed to be permanently distracted by the great triviality.fakta-fakta-serangan-teror-di-paris

A special week for the yard and gruelling conditions at Hexham on Friday; I was delighted when Lake View Lad quickened clear to win the bumper to give us our fourth winner, he looks a decent prospect and a horse to look forward to for the winter.

Earlier in the afternoon More Madness and Gold Opera both ran well to finish 3rd and will now be stepped up in trip, sadly Presenting Rose pulled far too hard in a falsely run race and was wisely eased by Stephen when they turned for home.

So the great AP McCoy thinks female jockeys should have a weight allowance;  an idea worthy of further debate if it would create more opportunities for all the girls that would like to ride professionally because at the moment there is no question in my mind that there is an almost sub conscious gender bias especially in jump racing and of course having a female stable jockey it would do us no harm!  AP quite rightly holds a uniquely esteemed position in our sport but if he will need to tread carefully if he is to be paid by a firm of Bookmakers to write a “controversial” blog each week.  Having said that his first issue is worthy of raising  and he was excellent on Channel 4 Racing yesterday, am afraid I can’t resist reminding everyone of this race at Musselburgh 3 years ago

After so much rain it looks very unlikely that Hexham will be able to stage their fixture on Wednesday so that leaves us with a quieter time, our other entries for the week being at Haydock on Friday and Saturday.
