Well, a quiet week on the blogging front to everyone’s relief I am sure.  Very mixed weather wise, lovely to begin with then fierce cold rain yesterday, bright today but cool; soft at Kelso, heavy at Hexham, good to firm at Carlisle, that shows where the weather has been coming from, we are letting quite a lot of horses down now but will wait until next week before we turn any out 24/7 as yesterday could have been February!  Only runner this weekend will be Ocarina at the Lauderdale point-to-point but we will hopefully be well represented at Kelso on Wednesday.  A week spent catching up in the office and making numerous plans, checking horses’ winds, some for retiring and trying to buy some new talent at the sales and privately.  Also want to bolster the team for Perth  during the summer, one idea in case anyone is interested; Marlee Massie didn’t look especially enthusiastic last week at Perth but he stayed on well enough and was actually only beaten 12l by the winner in the end finishing 6th.  The owner would like to sell him and my initial thoughts had been to look for a home out of racing for him but looking at the Perth programme over the summer there are a host of suitable opportunities for him and I think there is a reasonable chance the penny is going to drop and he will win races, he’s well bred (his brother was 3rd at the Punchestown Festival this week) and good looking and available at a “riding horse price” which is pretty good value considering he is race fit and ready to go, can’t be much downside and possibly quite a lot of fun for an individual or a small partnership so do contact me if he could be of interest..
