So, Good Friday, a significant change in our world as for the first time there is racing taking place, for us it has always been a normal work day so no difference really but for many people , religious or not, a bit sad as it represents a further “homogenisation” of the calendar.20140416-F14_6744_xlarge  The hugely popular open days at Middleham and Lambourn appear to have survived in tact but the annual jockeys big night out – the “Lesters”- has had to be moved to a date that I suspect will not work as well, I am sure there will be a huge crowd out enjoying themselves in glorious weather at Musselburgh and we are taking 3 horses there to work after racing so I am not being in the least bit sanctimonious but what I do find hard to rationalise with is the £1m of prize money on offer on the all-weather at Lingfield.  I guess that at least 95% of racing fans won’t recognise any horse on the card and it seems a bizarrely spendthrift attempt to rescue an area of the programme which appears to most of us to be struggling and rather pointless.  No runners for us over the weekend, ground just dried up a bit too much, Lucy at Carlisle tomorrow to ride Damascus Steel in the 1.20 and Dizoard in the 4.40 – Happy Easter everyone!
