Cold and blowy down here in Cumbria and it looks like being a bit fierce up in the hills at Hexham this afternoon where we have five runners on what is likely to be soft ground. The first race is at 2pm and we have two runners, Been Decided (Stephen) and Farewelltocheyenne (Peter Buchanan), both have been disappointing over hurdles to date so we are just looking for a bit of improvement to give us something to work on going forwards, 9 run. Celestino carries top weight in the 2.30, Kit rides and 9 run, he has also been failing to live up to expectations but drops in grade here in a return to the larger obstacles, his schooling has been good so hopefully he can show better form in a modest contest. 8 run in the 3.05 and we run Calivigny with Stephen on board, he is badly in at the weights with a few of these in what is a high class novice hurdle for the track, he doesn’t have many other options and is in good form so hopefully this afternoon will prove informative. Recent course and distance winner, The Bishop, attempts to follow up in the 4.15, 8 run, Kit rides and he should go well again if it doesn’t come too sooon
A good day at the Cumberland Farmers point-to-point yesterday with Christmas in the USA finishing a most promising 2nd in the Winners of One race on his debut, Wicklow Lad was just beaten in the Men’s Open and Royal Chatelier filled the same slot in the NPPA race. Unfortunately Aferclass burst a blood vessel and had to be pulled up as did Here’s to Harry whose feet became so stuck in the groundn that he pulled both his front shoes off.
