Frosty this morning, still changeable but things drying up fast after a very wet weekend here. A splendid win at Ayr yesterday with Craiganboy getting off the mark in fine style, it’s very rare that a race goes precisely to plan but Grant carried out instructions to perfection and deserves plenty of credit as do the team here who have done very well to get this horse right as he hasn’t been at all straightforward.
He was well backed at long odds, not by me sadly, on course apparently but I suspect it was the Paddy Power office in Waterford taking cover as Cornelius and his press room colleagues had popped in during their pre-Cheltenham tour of the big Irish stables, happy days and he might just be able to progress now that he has finally learnt to settle in his races, often the key. On to Musselburgh tomorrow where we have two runners on what is likely to be good ground.
Kit rides them both starting with Top Cat Henry in the Hunter Chase at 4.30, 8 run. He should be much more at home over this 2m 4f trip than he was over 3m 3f last time, we’ve popped the visor back on so hope he will run well but he may struggle to give weight to the front two in the market.
Then in the 5.00 we run Jolie Crickette; a winner last time out she also has plenty of weight and missed quite a lot of work this month, it’s a nice race for her so she is taking her chance, let’s hope she has retained enough fitness.
