Grotty weather really for the time of year, up and down the country, rain every day – perhaps we should decamp to Europe before it is too late (smiley face). With so few horses in I have reverted to doing the early feed, I struggled to enthuse about feeding Rock of Leon yesterday morning, we expect something in return for the care and attention we lavish on these horses and his recalcitrant display at Cartmel on Friday simply isn’t part of the deal. We will keep trying.
It is of course the time of the year for the Trainer to be gallivanting, a few little trips normally combining looking at horses, sales etc with a bit of fun – well it is all fun actually and today is a case in point with a brief trip to Paris – racing at Auteuil during the day tomorrow and football in the evening, home Tuesday morning.
We seem to have struck lucky at Auteuil because rather than two claimers and two listed races we now have five claimers and three listed races on a 13 race card. 13 races because their fixture on Thursday had to be abandoned after 3 races as it was too hot so they have simply moved the 5 remaining races to tomorrow, wouldn’t it be nice if our system had the flexibility to do that, about EU120k in prize money that will still go to the horsemen that would have been lost forever under our system.
If you can find the right horse French claimers do represent very good value relative to other ways of acquiring horses at present, these horses aren’t all being rejected, their system forces them down this route unless they are top class – do give me a shout if you would like to come along (we even have a spare ticket for Italy vs Spain!). Next runners for us at Perth at their two day meeting next week, Isla Pearl Fisher, Andhaar and Always Tipsy all intended runners so let’s hope we have a little luck – we will need it, Gordon Elliot has a staggering 53 entries – surely a record.
