Our runners at Perth tomorrow

Cool and showery, a busy week and we have six runners declared to run at Perth tomorrow where the ground is mainly soft.  Eagle Ridge runs in the first race at 1.30, 8 run and Lucy rides, he had a good excuse last time at Haydock and should leave that run behind him.

Jolie Crickette runs […]

Festivals Galore! (and Hexham tomorrow…)

Much cooler today, but a south westerly with the odd shower about, typical for the time of year and right now “typical” feels pretty good.  A wonderful two day meeting at Ayr, high class competitive racing for excellent money enjoyed by a huge crowd – exactly what it is all about and although most of the […]

Sun and winners thank goodness – and Ayr today.

Another lovely spring morning, perfect weather but Cheltenham abandoning a race yesterday because it was too hot?  Crikey, appears we are having coldest and hottest April days in the same year – wierd.  Farm slow to dry out but coming along now and conditions at the racecourses vary, it will be good ground today at […]

National then Newcastle

A lovely mild morning and the intensity of birdsong at first light heralding the long awaited spring, yippee, a glorious time of year.  Ground still very wet though, perhaps the heaviest its ever been yesterday at Newcastle and it was attritional stuff, I do wish jockeys would ride with more patience in these conditions, “ride […]

Newcastle, Aintree, Newcastle, Kelso then Carlisle!

Still cold & grey, drizzle but forecast much better for next week, at last.  A busy weekend ahead if the weather behaves (am I really saying this in mid April?) with a double header at Newcastle (heavy) and horses to be prepared for Kelso on Monday.  There’s a 7am inspection at Newcastle tomorrow but hopefully […]

A big weekend at Kelso and Carlisle

Cool today but dry thank goodness, forecast looks OK though little sign of any warmth.  Big day at Kelso tomorrow; the most valuable day’s racing they have ever staged and ITV Racing headlining their show from the track for the first time, whilst we would have had a stronger hand if the weather had obliged […]

One or two thoughts (in the absence of any racing)

After a glorious Easter Sunday weather has reverted to type with two grim days, more snow, driving sleet and the vast majority of the UK feels as if it is under water.

Every turf meeting abandoned on Easter Monday and today and tomorrow; even the driest of courses, Musselburgh, has already called off Thursday’s meeting due […]

Cold Easter

Horrible today – sleet and freezing rain blowing in on a strong Easterly wind, again…  forecast is rubbish and no sign of spring – disappointing but a drier spell has allowed us full use of all the facilities and the horses are doing plenty of work.  A sparse spell fixture wise on the racing front but […]

Pointing this weekend….

A fine evening after a disappointingly wet start to the day, horses seem well though and it’s been a busy week with full access to all the facilities appearing a bit of a novelty, long may it continue and at last we were able to school properly again yesterday, we took full advantage of the […]

Wetherby to Haydock

Another fine day, at home this morning and down here in Yorkshire where Christmas in USA was disappointing, appearing not to stay the 2m 4f on tiring ground but he blew hard and I fear that the impact of the weather on his recent training may have been greater than I expected.  Let’s hope that’s […]
