Wild weather today across Scotland, cold with squally showers and strong gusts of wind. Calivigny coped well with conditions at Ayr and stayed on strongly to finish a close 2nd, Frankie’s Promise went well for a long way but isn’t finishing off his races for some reason this season, we will investigate further, Titian Boy travelled very well down the back straight but inexperience and lack of match practice took their effect when they turned for home. We withdrew The Flaming Matron and Benny’s Secret on account of the heavy ground.
On to Newcastle tomorrow where the ground is soft with some heavy places, we run El Fontan in the 1.05, 16 run, after a disappointing run at Hexham last time we are looking for a confidence booster and are hence taking advantage of his lower handicap mark over hurdles, that doesn’t stop him being top weight so we are therefore taking a further 7lb off with Stephen’s claim.
We then have two runners in the 3.50, The Flaming Matron (Lucy) and Marlee Mourinho (Stephen), TFM still hasn’t really taken to fences but was a bit better last time at Carlisle, she is well in based on her hurdling from if the penny does drop, big Marlee Mourinho will hopefully progress a bit from his first run over fences but is likely to come on again for this run. Lucy also rides Scorpion’s Sting in the 2.15.
