Confusing weather, almost a frost two nights ago, a very mild 15 degrees this morning, confusing for the horses as well, many have already had their second clip, they are well rugged up and now some sweat under their rugs during the night, bizarre for the time of year, as is watering at Wetherby; no runners there for us today but three going to Ayr tomorrow where the ground is soft with good to soft places and rain is expected overnight.
Kit rides all three starting with Bracing in the 1.05 – 11 run in this mares maiden hurdle and we are just hoping that Bracing can see out her race this time having tired badly in the latter stages at Hexham 3 weeks ago, she has certainly been working and schooling well at home.
Then in the 2.15 we run Makhzoon, 7 run, he should like this ground and is gradually slipping down the handicap but this trip is his limit stamina wise so his prospects will depend on how the race is run. In the 2.50 Bertie Milan makes his seasonal reappearance, 6 run, his best run was winning the Highland National last time out at the Perth Festival in April over 3m 7f so on that basis he might find this 3m 1f a bit on the sharp side, he seems very fresh and well at home. Frank Cornfield was in earlier in the week and as ever took some fine photographs which I take pleasure in sharing.
