Delighted that Always Tipsy got off the mark at Musselburgh this afternoon, his first win and Stephen’s first win for the stable and our first win for his owners John Cockburn and Alan Wight, also a first win as a breeder for another big supporter of the yard in Mark Fleming.

A much better run from The Flaming Matron to finish 2nd, she is gradually getting the hang of chasing and should be able to progress from here, Presently Tipsy ran well enough and should continue to improve, Spinning Away ran a little better than last time but still didn’t see out her race, Whybutwhy again ran well for a long way but emptied out turning for home, I think better ground and a lower grade would help him and finally Benny’s Secret was very green in the bumper, he will be much better next time but I do miss the opportunity to give horses a racecourse gallop or schooling bumper.  Meanwhile we are hoping Haydock survives an early inspection tomorrow as the horses are already there, we run two outsiders in good races on what should be heavy ground.

Little Glenshee and Wicklow Lad settled in at Haydock Park tonight.

Little Glenshee goes in the 2.40, Lucy rides and 6 run, not an obvious race to run her in but having lost two good chances to the weather she has now been ready to go for a month and needs to run somewhere; Wicklow Lad runs in the Peter Marsh chase at 3.15, Stephen rides and 13 run, he has been bouncing since his trip to Kelso last week so we thought this looked like a nice race for him given the absence of anything else.  It may seem a trifle bonkers to go all the way to Haydock with two outsiders but they both love heavy ground, will love the track, and seem very well at home, the other issue is there aren’t suitable races for them up here for another month; nothing ventured, nothing gained….
