A glorious early spring morning, frost to start but thawed in time to school 3rd lot when Wicklow Gold, Rossini’s Dancer, Spinning Away, Celestino and Frankie’s Promise all schooled well over fences – good to be able to do the job preoperly again after so much wet weather.  Some compensation at Alnwick yesterday with Wicklow Lad running out a gutsy winner of the Men’s Open – he is an absolute star who has been racing for 8 seasons running well over 60 times and winning 9 times, yesterday’s modest prize tipped him over £100k in lifetime earnings – hats off to Wicklow!  Earlier in the afternoon the race unfortunately came a bit soon for Afterclass.

A bit of a week of “plan B’s” and back down the A1 to Newcastle tomorrow where the ground is expected to be heavy, a little rain in the morning would do no harm to freshen it up and we have four declared runners starting with Titian Boy (Stephen) in the 2.10, 9 run and if he can repeat his effort when runner up at Ayr 3 weeks ago he shouldn’t be far away.  We then have two runners in the 2.45 that have been rerouted from Kelso – Been Decided (Stephen) and Heilan Rebel (Brian Harding), both should be better over further in due course but need some experience, 10 run.

Titian Boy – I hope he can be as effective on “sticky heavy”

Then The Orange Rogue runs in the 3.15, 7 run and Stephen rides, narrowly defeated over course and distance last time we are fiddling with his headgear again to try to eek out the tiny margin that he requires to be able to win, he’s in grand form and will love the ground so fingers crossed.  Lucy is having a couple of easy days after a heavy fall at Doncaster on Saturday, she will be back to ride at Carlisle on Thursday.
