A fine day, fair but cool and 8 horses heading out first lot to the riverbank gallop.  A frustrating late withdrawal yesterday, a marginal decision but a correct one. Difficult though;  two months without a winner under rules, sitting high on the cold list, the perfect race picked out weeks ago and waited for, many other opportunities bypassed.

The favourite, well tipped up and the winner on paper – agonising, especially for the nice Turkish barber that cut my hair in London on Friday, his holiday no longer being paid for.  Sometimes in this game success is defined more by what you don’t do than you do, hopefully patience will be rewarded eventually.

With an absence of other opportunities Master Butcher will now have a short break and then be prepared to run at Perth in early July.  We are likely to have one or two runners at the Border p2p on Sunday but won’t be represented under rules until Perth Gold Cup Day on Sunday 7th June, I will be 54 by then (more gloom).  Hexham this evening, Lucy heading there to ride Ueueteotl in the 7.10 and Forestside in the 8.10 – then on to Cartmel tomorrow to ride King’s Chorister in the 3.20, Unex Picasso in the 3.50 and Stanley Bridge in the 5.00, Kit is there to ride Stoney in the 4.25.

New arrival Celestino (Lucy) - keen to get on with things, I wonder where he came from?
