Nick Alexander
Credentials
The Alexander family has bred, reared and trained thoroughbreds for over 50 years. Always closely involved, Nick has taken a professional interest in this particular craft since 2002. He trained under Permit from 2002 before taking out a full licence in 2007. To date he has sent out 44 winners from 467 runners (under rules and in point-to-points). 22% of his runners have been placed first or second, and 42% in the first four. The yard is presently going from strength to strength and since October 2010 has sent out 13 winners and 15 seconds from 97 runners, all with either homebreds or cheaply bought rejects from other yards.
He won the Permit Holder National Award for Best Horse in both the 2003/4 and 2006/7 seasons and the Thoroughbred Breeders' Association Breeder of the Month Award in December 2006 (having also trained the horse in question). He trained the Champion Northern Area Horse in the 2007 Point-to-Point Season. It is a family business and children Lucy and Kit were both Northern Area Champion Novice Riders. Lucy has now turned professional and brings valuable experience from her summers spent with Aidan O'Brien, Kevin Ryan and Sir Michael Stoute, while Kit studies at Durham University and in his spare time fulfils an important role as the yard's private handicapper.
Nick has also owned and managed horses in training with a number of leading trainers, and is involved with trade associations and the administration of racing and point-to-pointing at different levels.
