It was very much the last chance saloon in terms of a final run before her break for The Flaming Matron and I had been trying to find a race for her on soft ground for about six weeks, the owners’ patience was duly rewarded when she held on bravely to win at Cartmel yesterday, she lit up a dull afternoon in the office for me and I am sure that the owners, The Ladies Who (like a decent bet) lit up sleepy Cartmel well into the early hours as she was backed in from 7-1 to 7-2.  There had been much banter during the week between one of the owners and the Gloucestershire based trainer of the favourite so it was good to set the record straight, The Flaming Matron will now go to grass and should be a fun horse for next winter.  As well as the winner Lucy had two seconds and a third so a good day at the office for her, she has one ride at Hamilton today, Catterick tomorrow, Trainer’s birthday dinner in Edinburgh tomorrow night, a few at Hexham on Saturday then Southwell on Sunday so no easy summer for her.  We will hopefully have one runner over the weekend, Flaming Thistle in the 2.45 at Hexham on Saturday.

Flaming Thistle

Flaming Thistle, Kit on board, big sister takes over this weekend

Sorry, couldn't resist sticking this one up again - Thistle spent the winter in the field "recovering" from an injury - looks a bit different now thank goodness!
