Temperatures hovering around freezing this morning, some freezing fog about and after yesterdays light covering of snow conditions are distinctly dodgy. Horses all on the walker or out in the fields apart from our three Ayr runners tomorrow who are having a pipe-opener on the all-weather. After a wet spell the ground at Ayr looks like […]
Very cold this morning and a hard frost, turned into a glorious morning for training horses and as it’s a dry frost the all-weather facilities are in excellent condition and being put to good use; Thursday’s schooling over fences thwarted by the frost but some good work done in the schools.
A most encouraging return to form […]
Cold this morning, but benign enough weather for the time of year and racing looks like going ahead in the North this week though the abandonments are mounting up in the South. One runner today at Newcastle, Another Mattie in the 3.40, he’s been out of form this season, we think we identified a couple […]
Cold and misty here today, not as cold as in the South and the grass gallops in good shape though not great for spectators!
A cracking run from Andhaar yesterday to be 3rd, he’s taken time to find his form again but grand to see him run so well now he has reached the veteran stage, […]
Mild again and winter thankfully slipping past without too much disruption, conditions good for schooling this morning and we made the most of it with about 15 horses schooling over hurdles or fences. One runner at Musselburgh tomorrow where the groubnd is good, Andhaar in the 3.30, Blair Campbell rides and 10 run; he’s been […]
Mild again, and damp, heavy ground at Ayr yesterday and will only be deeper today. Two declared runners starting with Clan Legend in the 2.20pm, Lucy rides and 6 run, I’m not at all happy about having to run in this race on these terms (carrying a 7lb penalty against horses rated up to 17lb […]
Much milder today, this winter is being characterised by regular 10 degree plus temperature swings, most confusing for the natural world which includes racehorses and their already confused trainers (speak for yourself I hear them cry!). Heavy old ground at Kelso today so Jet Master withdrawn but a fun day’s racing nevertheless and some uplifting […]
Proper winter weather this week, storms then snow and now frost, feels a bit more normal actually, milder from tomorrow and facilities bearing up well with the horses doing plenty of work. One declared runner tomorrow at Kelso, Jet Master in the 2.40 but he won’t run if it turns heavy overnight which looks likely, […]
A glorious day at a well attended West Percy point-to-point at Alnwick with loads of runners and an excellent atmosphere; great fun though it came of weeks too soon for Wicklow Lad who tired in the closing stages of a competitive Mens Open and blew hard, we will see how he goes next time but […]
Very dark this morning, milder again after a brief cold snap and the forecast fine for January. Much of this weekend will be spent on the A1 and it will be dark tomorrow morning when we set off for early for Newcastle where the ground is soft and we have our first runner in the […]
