Ayr, Carlisle and, err, Wetherby

Quiet weather today, late back from Wetherby last night and no rest for the wicked with runners at Ayr today and Carlisle tomorrow.  The ground at Ayr should be perfect, soft side of good, unfortunately both our runners are in the same race, the 2.35, Jet Master (Lucy) and Presenting Rose (Stephen), 13 run.

Jet Master […]

Wetherby tomorrow.

Breezy today and some soft rain; a runner tomorrow at Wetherby, Bertalus in the 4.30, where the ground has been well watered and should ride on the soft side of good, 13 run.  It is only his second chase and he moves into handicap company but the track should suit fine and he should appreciate the […]

Ayr today

Colder again this morning, showers & sunshine and the wind still in the East where is has been for several weeks now, a return to more seasonally normal westerlies but pressure still high so not much rain about.

Ground just on the soft side of good at Ayr today and we have two runners, both in […]

Carlisle, Kelso next and something a little technical (yawn).

Another fine autumn day, horses working well, grass in fine fettle and grand to be able to do some faster work at last.  I have a feeling that a few of our horses have missed that, some don’t appear to need it but others do and it’s been too firm until this week- will be […]

Carlisle tomorrow (and weights)

Quieter weather again now but pleased to say there has been plenty of rain at Carlisle and we go there tomorrow with three runners on soft ground, all are making their seasonal debut.  Whilst they will improve for their runs and are a little bit on the heavy side they have been up to full work […]

Progress report.

Very different conditions now, wind and rain, lots of migratory geese in the skies and the leaves are turning and beginning to fall.  A thoroughly ordinary day at Carlisle on Thursday, teaching McGinty’s Dream to settle was always going to be a painful process and painful it was but settle he did and we can be […]

Carlisle tomorrow

Cool today, but quiet though signs low pressure arriving before the weekend.  Carlisle’s first meeting of the new jumps season and we have two runners on ground that is on the easy side of good having been watered twice this week and good competitive racing at Wetherby today as a result of them applying 40mm […]

No Hexham but maybe Carlisle

Cool today, overcast with an easterly wind, no rain and conditions have dried up everywhere, including on the racecourses.  High pressure set to dominate for at least another week keeping the cool air coming in from Scandinavia and the wet and windy weather well out in the Atlantic.  Hmm, patience, patience, patience, not suitable for […]

Glass half full…

A beautiful crisp autumn morning, almost a touch of frost first thing, the weather set fair and productive time spent on the gallops working 32 horses.  Definitely a glass half full sort of day yesterday in that despite both my runners failing to beat another horse at Hexham I came away feeling it had been […]
