Uttoxeter, Ayr, Newcastle, weather, weather, weather!

Relatively calm today and a touch milder,  a day between two storms.  Unsurprisingly Ayr’s fixture tomorrow has been abandoned, waterlogged and an atrocious forecast; will therefore hopefully be Newcastle on Wednesday next where the have been innovative in scheduling an all chase card in the face of a waterlogged hurdle track – thank you James.

Frustrating […]

Storms & Uttoxeter

The stormiest of weeks and the team here have done a fantastic job to keep the show on the road in some of the worst conditions that I can remember, more to come sadly but at least the days are drawing out a little.  Although I’ve been here for part of every day this week […]

Lucy, Newcastle, Alnwick and Jamie

Very mild, overcast but dry, for now.  An honest and perceptive article about Lucy in today’s Racing Post, well worth reading and you can see the full article here.  Two lorries en route for Newcastle this morning prior to it’s 8.15am abandonment, frustrating but I am fully behind racecourses giving fixtures every chance and appreciate […]

Nothumbria beckons

A fine mild morning, I could almost feel spring round the corner and a big squad of horses exercised, mostly working on the AW but half a dozen schooling over hurdles, we might even get back on the grass gallops next week, we sort of need to to bring forward some of the younger horses. […]

Ayr yesterday, Musselburgh today…

Cold and grey again today, cloud has kept the frost away and Musselburgh goes ahead.  Pleased to have yesterday behind me to be honest, we needed to get a run into these horses and have thankfully done that but the ground was very testing and made it hard work, I wouldn’t be inclined to judge […]

A busy looking sort of day….

Cold still, ground hard here but nothing extreme.  A long trip to Wetherby on Saturday, Little Glenshee’s race wasn’t really run to suit her, then she made a mistake and took a little time to regain her confidence, race over but she plugged on to be 5th, there will be another day for her, Road […]

Brrr, Wetherby?

As predicted the weather has turned cold and frosty, no bad thing really but racing plans all a bit uncertain.  So it’s Wetherby next so long as their optimism re beating the weather isn’t misplaced,  I was hesitant to committing to an “overnighter” in the circumstances but they aren’t predicting any problems and the race […]

Wetter….

Yes, unbelievably, I think another two inches of rain since I wrote on Sunday, I wouldn’t mention it really because I know it is boring but I have to pay tribute to the team here who are being very stoical in putting up with such miserable conditions; and I think that this morning was just […]

Where next……?

So a couple of weeks ago I wrote that “the land has never lain wetter” – well, it has now as after the briefest of frosty spells the rain returned with a vengeance, huge amounts of water lying on the roads when I returned from Edinburgh this morning and sadly Ayr is waterlogged forcing the […]

Musselburgh then where….

I don’t think that the current storm is intense enough to have been dignified with a name but the strong easterly wind accompanied by heavy rain started on Saturday morning and has been fairly unrelenting since, it’s due to last for another 48 hours, I suppose we should be grateful it isn’t snowing!

An excellent effort […]
