Wet Wednesday

Mucky old day here but we soldier on with lots of hardworking horses and people, four lots in the rain and some encouraging work on the grass from those entered this weekend.  Two new arrivals help to lighten the mood,  an un-raced 4yo called Frankie’s Promise (Fruits of Love ex According to Molly) has arrived from Ireland to race […]

Four Fiddlers

As light as my heart was feeding the horses a week ago it was heavy this morning after we were dealt a second cruel blow in the space of 48 hours with the loss of Four Fiddlers at Aintree yesterday.  Having stepped up to the bigger stage with aplomb he was travelling well on the […]

Aintree

A mixed sort of day yesterday, Isla Pearl Fisher took a heavy fall early on, Academy faded quickly as if something was amiss after travelling strongly but Issabella Gem gave us more encouragement.  All home safely though despite a few cuts and bruises so I’m not complaining.

Today at Aintree we run Four Fiddlers in the […]

Eagle

We were reminded of the swings and roundabouts of this sport in brutal fashion at Carlisle yesterday when Cheatingsideoftown broke his shoulder at the final flight of hurdles when disputing the lead and had to be humanely destroyed.  He was running his best race for some time and to go from potential triumph to tragedy […]

Three in a row

A grey old week but dryish and quiet so all productive on the home front and three days racing in a row coming up, to assist our transport position I took the train to Yorkshire yesterday and picked up a two stall lorry from JSW Coachbuilders which was easy to drive home and will be a  big help logistically.

We […]

It would appear..

.. that I have discovered a lucky tie; we seem to be having winners and as I tread wearily up the Kinneston cobbles to feed the eager looking horses this morning my heart is lightened.  We have a great team of dedicated people here who work exceptionally hard ensuring that these horses are capable of producing their best on […]

Back to Kelso

Back to Kelso tomorrow where the ground will be heavy after a very wet 10 days.  Not ideal but we might wait a long time for things to dry up so off we go….    We run King Brex in the 3.50, 9 run and Kit rides.  He ran a more promising race last time […]

Frankel – the different one

Of course, although my attention is focused on our runners at Kelso, this week is only really about one horse and that is the peerless Frankel who bids farewell to the racecourse at a star studded British Champions Day at Ascot on Saturday.  There has been tremendous press coverage, most particularly the article in the Sunday Times magazine […]

Mixed Day

Changeable weather but generally fairly unpleasant and everything is quite wet so focus on the all-weather this week which was repaired over the weekend having been damaged by the heavy rain late last week.  At least it gave the horses a break from it and they appear to be working with relish (well, most of them).  A […]

Tipsy by name….

Mark Fleming’s Tipsy Dara recorded her third success of 2012 at Hexham yesterday on her seasonal debut.  She jumped for fun and having been headed 5 out battled back bravely for a game success.  She is a courageous mare who is a joy to train and she received a suitably rapturous reception from the Hexham […]
