Snow and frost, a tricky combination but we have managed to keep the show on the road so far training wise, the summer improvements proving their worth. I suppose not a bad week to have the cold snap with minimal racing in the North but we desperately need it to move on by the end of the week; apart from Catterick on Wednesday we have entries at Wetherby and Aintree on Saturday, Kelso on Sunday and Musselburgh on Monday. The horses seem fit and well but need to go racing as some of them are becoming very fresh.
An ordinary sort of day at Newcastle on Saturday, Bertie Milan would really be better over 3 miles on a sounder surface, he never looked happy in the circumstances but still ran creditably enough. Here’s to Harry made a reasonably satisfactory hurdling debut but I feel he is better than this, easy to blame the ground but I thought he would handle it, I will see if anything comes to light.
Out with the string for the first time this morning was Another Mattie, an Irish point-to-point winner with respectable bumper form who joined us last week. Some great photographs from Frank Cornfield
